TWO KILLED BY SHARKS

Freighter Sinks In Caribbean (Rec. 10 p.m.) CRISTOBAL (Panama Canal Zone), July 4. Survivors of the Colombian freighter Rio Atrato, which caught Are and sank in the Caribbean, told today of fighting off sharks before being rescued. Two of the known dead were believed to have been eaten by sharks. The German freighter Essen arrived here with 39 barefooted men, women and children picked up after the petrol-laden vessel went down yesterday 90 miles off Cartagena, Colombia. Thirteen were taken to hospitals. Still missing were from seven to 10 persons, including at least six passengers. The survivors, all Colombians, reported seeing five persons die.

A 19-month-old girl was killed in the first of 10 explosions which sent the ship to the bottom.

The Rio Atrato left Cartagena on Thursday carrying 300 tons of general cargo and 22,000 gallons of petrol.
