“Actual Experience Questionnaire”

“Parents will have noticed that intermediate schools have been a subject of discussion in the daily newspapers. To obtain some first-hand information on some of the questions involved, we would be grateful if parents of pupils, who have sojne experience of an intermediate school, would give us their opinions by answering the questions below,” says a form distributed to parents by at least one Christchurch intermediate school.

The “actual experience questionnaire” is as follows: “(1) When your child transferred from contributing school to intermediate school was he more unsettled than when changed from one class to another in his contributing school? If your answer is ‘yes,’ was he unsettled considerably or slightly? How long did it last? “(2) When your child changed to intermediate, was he eager, not much concerned, or unwilling? “f 3 Has your child benefited from the approach to education in the intermediate school?

“(4) Has your child enjoyed the approach to education in the intermediate school?

“(5) Teachers attempt to >match the course of instruction with the ability of the child so that all children can experience some measure of success. In your opinion, has this school succeeded in' carrying this out as far as your child is concerned?

“(6) Are there any features of the intermediate school on which you would care to comment (favourably or unfavourably)?” There is space for comment on each question.
