Leper Refuses Payment When Mr P. J. Twomey visited the Makogai Leper Station recently, one of the patients took some photographs for Mr Twomey but refused any money for the film although he had only a few shillings. “I expect to be discharged from the island shortly and to return to my home in Suva,’’ the man told Mr Twomey (who is secretary of the Lepers Trust Board).
“You and your board have provided the workshop where I have been taught several trades. I am now better equipped to earn a living than if I had not come here. I thank you for this.”
