Hillis Succeeds With Appeal

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 3

The Taranaki jockey, B. L Hillis, was successful in his appeal yesterday to the Waikato District Committee against the decision of the iudieiai committee of the Bay of Plenty Racing Club on June 20 to suspend him up to and including July 11 for causing interference tn the Fauranga Hack Hurdles. The decision enables Hillis to ride Thepeen in the Wellington Steeplechase at Trentham tomorrow. He will also ride Merrywyn at the meeHng.

V. H. Simpson had contracted to ride both horses if Hillis’s appeal was unsuccessful.

Inter-Schooi Games.—Results of the annual inter-school matches between Ashburton Technical College and Westport Technical College, played last week, were:—Rugby: First fifteen Westport 27, Ashburton 9; second fifteen, Westport 5. Ashburton 0. Girls’ hockey: Ashburton 7, Westport 4. Basketball: A team, Westport 27. Ashburton 9; B team, Ashburton 21. Westport 7.
