Drop In Profit Last Year

Net profit of Harnish and Jordan, Ltd., manufacturers of Venetian blinds and other products. Auckland, fell £995 to £10.607 m the year ended March 31. The latest profit was reached after tax provision of £10.663 (a decrease of £l5BB from 1957-58) and depreciation of £9265 (a decrease of £401). In addition to the net profit, surplus tax of £195 (nil in 1958), and over-provided dividends of £340 (nil) have been written back. In the previous year there was a capital profit of £9OO Ordinary dividend is unchanged at 8 per cent., requiring £5360, and the fij per cent, preference payment absorbs £650.
General reserves have again been credited with £3OOO, and £650 (£3503 in 1958) has been written off goodwill. The net income exceeds these appropriations by £1482, increasing the amount carried forward to £10,432.
Stocks increased during the year by £40,987 to £105,412. Creditors rose by £33,794 to £76,518 and bank overdraft increased by £1730 to £35,214. Total net assets rose by £17,162 to £96,112. Paid capital was increased during the year from £67,(X' to £77,000 in 67,000 ordinary and 10.000 preference shares of £ 1 each by calling up the uncalled ordinary capital
