Russian Ballet Tour
Sir, —It is to be hoped that the announcement of the cancellation of the Russian Classical Ballet Ensemble’s tour without so much as an apology or an explanation will shock our apathetic New Zealanders. This has happened here not in a fiction story. The Russian powers that be have once more proved themselves to be unpredictable, unapproachable, unco-operative, and, what is worse to our way of thinking, unreliable. The Soviet Legation hopes the ballet will come later. I hope Mr Kerridge will realise that having been bitten once is no immunity against a second bite from the same source and that, like the Soviet Legation, he will be unavailable.—Yours, etc., IT TAKES KERRIDGE. July 2, 1959.
