Rangiora Farm Cadets
Sir,—The “management,” i.e., the Canterbury Youth Farm Advisory Council, whose past achievement Mr Wills discredits, is unlikely to be deterred from its efforts to ensure that its widely r gnised good work is carried on. Town boys may, I hope, continue to lodk forward to the voluntary services of this group of well-informed people, who have helped so many, including, perhaps, Mr Wills, to gain good basic farm training. Contrary to Mr Wills’s statement it seems the cadet scheme has not been “discontinued,” the Education Board was not “an obstacle to the course,” and shortage of accommodation did not "upaet the scheme." “P.WI.” should not feel apprehensive for surely no one can take away the knowledge he gained under the scheme. T value of the certificate as tangible proof of his having reached a standard set by competent examiners should gain rather than lose its significance. Former cadets might well forward constructive suggestions through their delegate. I am sure their contributions would be well received.—Yours, etc, M.T.B. July 1. 1959.
