MINOR TRAFFIC CASES

Hearing By Justices Advocated (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 1. Road safety education would probably benefit if Justices of the Peace were allowed to hear minor traffic cases, the Commissioner of Transport (Mr H. B. Smith) told the Wellington Justices of the Peace Association today. It would not only help in urban areas where Magistrates were faced with a backlog of cases, but Justices of the Peace would lean more on the educative rather than the punitive side in their decisions, he said. Mr G. E. Cox said most Justices of the Peace would agree with Mr Smith on this question.
