Harriers AUSTRALIAN VISIT
Team Sought By Canterbury Further efforts to arrange a visit of Australian harriers to New Zealand will be made by the Canterbury cross-counrty running management committee of the Canterbury centre. New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
The Canterbury delegate to the conference of provincial delegates at the time of the national titles will be instructed to raise the question of a return visit by the Australians, suggesting 1961 as the year. This was agreed to at a meeting of the committee when it was reported that negotiations for a visit by an Australian national team this year had <ppt been successful. With the Olympics taking place next year, it was felt that 1961 would be the first season there was any prospect of arranging a tour. Writing on' Fence "I thought it in very bad taste.” said Mr C. F. Reece, referring to the word “Colts" he had seen recently on a ■ church fence. It was obviously the work of harriers as a direction guide to a colts’ pack. Other members spoke against this action and also that of laying heavily papered trails in residential areas, but the matter was allowed to lapse as the offending club was not known.
A ruling will be sought from the national association on whether the acceptance of a cash prize in a national daneing competition would prevent a person from competing in amateur athletics.
