DEATH ROLL OF 35

New Brunswick Disaster

(N.Z Press Association—Copy right) ESCUM T NAC (New Brunswick), June 22.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police officials put the death roll in New Brunswick’s worst fishing disaster in history at 35 today. Thirteen are known dead, 22 are missing and presumed drowned. Police said 11 bodies had been recovered. Federal fisheries officers and R.C.M.P. said 22 boats from a fleet of more than 50 were missing after a storm rose suddenly in the strait on Friday night. Eighteen boats have come ashore, broken up or damaged. Four returned on their own power. A bumper salmon run drew the fleet out.

The strait was calm today, with only a light wind. Two boats began dragging Miramichi Bay for bodies, while Air Force volunteers from nearby Chatham and mounted police continued ground searches along the coast.
