BOUNTY MUTINEER DESCENDANT
Agriculture Studies In Fiji
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 14.
A young Pitcairn Islander, Mr Desmond Christian, aged 21, arrived in Auckland in the Rangitata on his way to Fiji, where he is to study agriculture for nine months under a Fijian Government assistance plan. Mr Christian, a direct descendant of one of the Bounty mutineers, was. selected for the agricultural training course by an agricultural officer of the Fijian Government (Mr J. W. Deering) who has just spent a month on Pitcairn investigating the island’s agricultural needs. "Fiji is anxious to help the Pitcairn Islanders improve their agriculture,” said Mr Deering. "The two islands are linked in that the Governor of Fiji (Sir Kenneth Maddocks) is also Governor of Pitcairn.”
