M. Schumacher Suspended

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, June 14. Mel Schumacher was suspended for a month for careless riding at Eagle Farm yesterday. The suspension has cost Schumacher the ride on Balfast, heavily-backed favourite for tomorrow’s £12.000 Brisbane Cup. The stewards suspended Schumacher for causing Interference to three horses in the Second Wattle Brae Handicap, which be wOn on Royal Ensign. Schumacher was suspended until July 10, the day before the Doomben Cup.

Balfast’s trainer, Doug Webster, <aid he would get in touch with Doug Weir and offer him the ride on Balfast. Webster also asked Russell Maddock to stand by to substitute for Weir. -

History repeated itself on this Stradbroke day for Schumacher. At the same meeting last year he was suspended until the day before the Doomben Cup for causing interference in the Stradbroke, in which he rode Gold Stakes.
