“ANTI-LITTERBUG” CAMPAIGN
Action By Auckland Council "The Press'* Special Service AUCKLAND, June 12. Concerned at the increasing amount of litter in city streets, the works commitfee of the Auckland City Council is sponsoring an “anti-litterbug” campaign To encourage higher standards of street cleanliness it Intends to provide 50 new rubbish bins in ipner city streets immediately and a further 150 bins in the next five years at a cost of £1125. The , transport Board will be asked to put up notices in buses requesting passengers to drop used tickets in 1 bins in the buses before alighting. A meeting of the works com- , mittee also decided to ask the . Junior Chamber of Commerce to , hold campaigns for improved street cleanliness, and to approach . schools so that children could be , informed of the campaign. Department stores and shops in the city will be requested to wrap , dockets in parcels where feasible i and the police will be asked if it i is possible to warn people throwing litter on streets. Carrying
firms will be told that it is an Offence for trucks to drop material on the roads.
