In the 3 1958 spring mating season officers ’of the association inseminated ’ ] 15.150 cows from 593 herds, com- > pared with 14.509 from 521 herds ? the previous year. • I Total spring inseminations built /up from 18.412 in 1957 to 19.116 in t 1958 and the total number of cows successfully inseminated increased ; from 10.855 to 11.362. The perrcentage of successful insemin- - ations at 59.4 per cent, has rei | mained reasonably constant for ' .[the last three years. The average number of herds]' :in the 21 groups enrolled in 1958] was 28. and there was an average number of 721 cows inseminated in each group. While the number of groups declined by ! two there was a significant increase in the number of herds and cows inseminated in each group. a Three groups. at Rangiora. Christchurch and Outram, had a r total of 86 herds enrolled for . winter mating, and 2052 insemin’J ations were made on 1634 " cows. Of these. 1258. or 61.3 per " cent., succesful inseminations were ■ recorded. For the year 1958 ■'the total inseminations built oi up to 21.168. involving 16.784 cows! ' f in 679 herds Inseminations with deep frozen h semen increased to 2750 and the' conception rate of 62.5 per cent. ‘ was better than the overall aver- -- age with chilled semen of 59.6 d per cent.
