ANOTHER FARM CONFERENCE

Two members of the staff of Canterbury Agricultural College will be among speakers at this

year’s Ruakura farmers' conference which begins on Tuesday They are Mr P. G. Stevens, senior lecturer in the animal husbandry department, who will give an evening lecture on farming in the Soviet Union, and Dr. I. D. Blair, head of the microbiology department at Lincoln, will give an address on ’Toxic Grass. What Of It?"—a subject of considerable interest in the Waikato. The Ruakura conference, which :is subdivided into sections for i sheep and dairy farmers as well as for all farmers, is reputed to be one of the country's largest i gatherings of farmers with more ! than 1000 attending the oaper sessions. The conference has the benefit of the use of the farmers' hall which was opened last year. • A hall of a similar nature at I.in- ; coin would likewise be of great . value to farmers in Canterburv and the South Island. I A special feature of the Ruakura : conference is the field day which • has attracted attendances of up to 5600. Public buses are hired for the occasion and these continu- ; ously circulate on a fixed route along which a wide variety of demonstrations are arranged.
