SLAUGHTERMEN RESUME WORK
Company Refuses Demands iNew Zealana Press Association! AUCKLAND, June 12. The 28 mutton slaughtermen at the Otahuhu works of R. and W Hellaby, Ltd-, who stopped work at midday on Wednesday demanding extra payment for handling heavy lambs resumed work just before noon today without getting the extra payment. A spokesman for the company said today that the men resumed work after discussions between union officials and the works management.
He said the management was unable to accede to. the men’s demand as it would mean an alterat; of the award which was a Dominion-wide one.
During the period the slaughtermen were out, the killing of about 5000 sheep and lambs was delayed, he said.
