ADELAIDE CUP
Victorian Stayer Wins Easily (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) ADELAIDE, May 13. Mac, the Victorian stayer, won a sensationallyi-run Adelaide Cup today from Stormy Passage and the New Zealand-bred Morloch. Gaybao, also from Victoria, started hot favourtie at 5 to 4, but lost lengths when he veered off the track after about five furlongs. He finished a distant ninth—beating only two others home. Stormy Passage’s rider, G. Aistrope, tried to steal the twomile race from barrier rise. ’As they came to the winning post for the first time Stormy Passage cleared away to a lead of 12 lengths. At the six furlongs he had increased this to at least 25 lengths from Peter Brueghel with Gaybao on the outside next, then Morloch, Demeter and Mac. Stormy Passage had a lead of at least 15 lengths with half a mile to go, but he was beginning to tire. Mac was gaining ground at every stride. He quickly passed Gaybao coming to the turn and had Peter Brueghel beaten, leaving only Stormy Passage. Stormy Passage, which had made the turn awkwardly, got very tired at the furlong post and soon afterwards Mac, showing his true stamina, drew away to win by two lengths and a half. Morloch, which hung in badly in the straight, was third and then came Trellios, whose owner. Mr D. Moriarty, is also part owner, of Morloch. Result: ADELAIDE CUP Of £A4OOO and gold cup valued £A2SO; 2 miles. MAC N. Quinlan 1 STORMY PASSAGE G. Aistrope 2 MORLOCH D. Coleman 3 Eleven started. Two lengths and a half, length. Time, 3min 24sec.
