CALIFORNIA TEAM VISIT
Union Not Hopeful About Prospects (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Mav 12. The New Zealand Rugby Union is not hopeful about the prospects of a team coming here from California. The executive last night considered a letter from the former Canterbury captain (Mr P. B. Vincent), who recentlv returned from a course of university study in California. Mr Vincent sought advice on an inquiry from the Californian Rugby authorities, who wanted to know how they should go about arranging a tour of this country. Mr T. C. Morrison said New Zealand had no ties with California, which was the Rugby responsibility of the countries in the Northern Hemisphere. Mr J. N. Millard said that Californian Rugby should not be confused with that of British Columbia. In California, the game was played for only a few weeks in the, autumn, as training for American football. Reference was also made to the fact that, when arrangements for a visit from California were made several years ago. the tour was cancelled at the last minute at the American end. It was decided to suggest that California should make a written application setting out the proposed terms of the tour, which could then be considered by the New Zealand Council.
