TIME TO CURB INCIDENTS
Commonplace In All Centres (New Zealand Press Association) OAMARU, May 12. •‘lt is high time something was done to curb the incidents that are becoming commonplace in Rugby football, not only in North Otago, but throughout the country,” said Mr T. Cahill at a meeting of the management committee of the North Otago Rugby U n ’ on last night. "There is too much indiscriminate use of the boot, and fists are flying too often. The public don’t like it, and neither do those who play Rugby for the game’s sake. "It is time the referees acted to check an undesirable trend in our national game.” Mr Cahill added. The president of the North Otago Referees’ Association (Mr H. E. Kilgour) said that so far no "incidents” had been reported to the referees. Mr Kilgour said that if a player offended it was not just good enough to let him off with a caution—be should be stood down. An offending player only cautioned would, in most cases, offend again.
