In Love, revelled in the heavy going to win the Denman Stakes at Randwick yesterday, and will be set for the Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane. The win was In Love’s second in succession. He started at 5 to 2. The fast-finishing New Zealand mare, Gentle Lu (4 to 1) was second, with Prince Kerdieil (3 to 1) third. Gentle Lu, a noted mud-runner, was one of the best-backed, firming from 5 to 1. As usual, she gave the leader. Magic Kingdom, a good start over the first half-mile. At the straight, Gentle Lu was still a fair way back, but she went very fast from the Leger, and for a few strides looked like catching In Love. Prince Kerdieil was given every chance. The New Zealand-bred favourite. Prince Lea, failed in the muddy going in the Bodkin Two-year-old Handicap. Prince Lea finished seventh. The winner. Front Cover (7 to 1) led throughout, and held off strone challenges by the New Zealand filly. My Melodee (9 to 1). which finished and Happy Kingdom (11 to 2).
