(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, April 12. Sir Anthony Eden, the former British Prime Minister, was so delighted with his stay tn Otehei Bay in the Bay ot Islands early in 1957. that he has tried to buy land on Urupukapuka Island, including Paradise Bay, which is on the other side of the island from Otehei Bay. He wanted eight acres, but a stipulation in the rules of the company owning the island. Baker’s Island, Ltd., forbids the sale of any land. This is to keep the island in the Baker family. “It all started just after Sir Anthony Eden left,” said Mr F C. Baker, of Russell, who, with his nephew, Mr R. L. Baker, of Auckland, forms the company owning the island. “We were not prepared to lease eight acres, as it did not suit our plans for the island. We suggested two

acres, but he has not taken that up. “He wanted complete privacy, including the beach at Paradise Bay,” said Mr Baker. Paradise Bay is a mile over the hill from Otehei Bay Lodge, prominent Bay of Islands fishing hotel Sir Anthony and Lady Eden stayed at the home of Mr ana Mrs R. A. Stone, in Otehei Bay.
