NEW CATTLE PAVILION
£7OOO Addition At Show Grounds
The erection of a separate new cattle pavilion instead of an addition to the present pavilion at the Addington Show Grounds has been recommended by a special sub-committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
The sub-committee’s report was received at yesterday’s meeting of the association’s general committee.
The new building will be sited along the Twigger street boundary, with its north end on an approximate line of the north end of the temporary pavilion. The building will be of 12.000 sq ft., and will house slightly more than 200 cattle. The present pavilion houses 400 cattle. A form of laminated wood construction which could be fabricated by the ground staff with some expert assistance in the early stages has been recommended bv the association’s architect (Mr P. Beaven). The building would be weatherproof and unencumbered with internal supports. The cost of the new building has been estimated at £7OOO.
It would be very suitable for storage, and for exhibitipns of all kinds, said the sub-committee’s report. Discussion on methods of raising finance for the building was taken in committee.
