SITE AT SHOW CRITICISED

Lincoln College Display

The location near the pig pens given to the display staged by Canterbury Agricultural College, at the Christchurch Show for the last two years was regarded as unsatisfactory, and unworthy of the college, said a letter from Dr. M. M. Burns, director of the college, received at a meeting yesterday of the general committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association.

Members of the college staff responsible for the arrangements for the display had expressed “very grave concern,” said Dr. Burns’s letter.

“Several years ago, the college tent was sited beside the C.F.M. . building, and was then moved nearer the horse stalls, followed |by a move further back behind a commercial firm, and more recently to a site near the pig pens.

“We can only conclude from I these changes that the college display is regarded as being of secondary or even tertiary importance,” Dr. Burns said.

j “It is rather disturbing to get that letter. There was no thought ! whatsoever of pushing the Lincoln College exhibition into the background,” said Mr R. \V. Oliver. “Their site was only a few yards away from where they were previously situated.” “I don’t think we should take all they have Said too much for granted. They can’t expect to have a monopoly,” said the president (Mr H. C. A. Sidey). “One or two of their displays have not been particularly enterprising in the last two or three years, I don’t think,’’ said the secretary (Mr H. M. Studholme). “There was no wish on the part of this association that they be pushed into the background,” said the president. "I am sure the [grounds committee will do the (best for them in the future.” It was decided to refer the | letter to the grounds committee.
