FREEZING WORKS STOPPAGE
Men Complain Of Heat
Yesterday’s hot weather caused a temporary stoppage by about 100 mutton butchers at the Belfast works of Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., when the men complained of ventilation conditions. The men alleged that working conditions in the butchering room were intolerably hot. Work was resumed after an hour when an assurance was received that the conditions would be inspected by the Labour Department.
The men’s complaint was discussed yesterday afternoon at a special meeting between the management, representatives of the Freezing Workers’ Union, and officers of the Labour Department. ‘‘Appropriate action is being taken,*’ said the superintendent of the Labour Department (Mr C. P. Collins) last evening.
