FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A ridge of high pressure extends on the North Island, and a slow-moving cold front is approaching Southland. Forecast:— * West Coast: Moderate to strong northerly winds; overcast, with periods of rain, heavy at times in the south; mild temperatures. Outlook: unsettled, showery weather. Canterbury: North-west winds, strong at times; cloudy, with very warm day temperatures. Outlook: similar conditions. Marlborough and Nelson: North or north-west winds, strong in exposed places; showers about the ranges and Nelson, mainly cloudy elsewhere; mild to warm temperatures. Outlook: some showers.
