RACING Motueka Does Sound Trial For Trentham

Motueka ran the fastest mile of the training on the plough at Riecarton yesterday. This trial was part of his preparation for the Wellington Racing Club’s Autumn Handicap on Saturday. Motueka was ridden by J. Quigley.

Awakeri <G. W. Mein) started with Motueka and droppad out after they ran five furlongs in Imln 43-Bmc. Motueka finished his mile in Imln 448-Baec alongside Skyrider (X Leach), which joined in for the last six furlongs.

The last half mile was run in Msec. Tauntress <W. Hanlin) and Riverwood (G. W. Mein) ran a mile on the plough in Imln 481-tlsec. It was a good gallop after a slow first furlong. They quickened to run the last half mile in Bl 2-6 sec and the final three furlongs in 384-Bsec. Tauntress will run in the Tlnakorl Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, and her stablemate, Riverwood, has an engagement In the race for hack stayers at Motukarara. Ration Time <N. Eastwood) and Cruising (A H. Eastwood) recorded Imln 483-Bsec for their mile. They stepped up the pace to record 803-Bsec, for the last half mile and 382-Bsec for the final three furlongs. Ration Time is a candidate for the Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara. Americus <D. J. Thlstoll) took imln 48 2-Bsec for his mile. Jimmy Hill <W. Hanlin) joined In for the last six furlongs and they ran the last four on terms in 814-Bsec.

Fair Catch (G. W. Mein) led Water Boy (N. Eastwood) by a length and was tour lengths clear Of Nikkie (W. Beck) finishing seven furlongs In Imln 311-ssec, the last four in 52sec and the final three in 30 2-Bsee.

Fair Catch will have his first race for several weeks at Motukarara on Saturday. His form fell away after he won the Cashmere Plate at the last Grand National meeting.

Strong Pace Every Right (G. W. Mein) led Goldwyn (L. McGuire) by halt a length ending seven furlongs In Imln 391-ssec. The pace was strong from the start: they ran the first three furlongs in 37 3-Bsec and the four in 50 l-ssec. Fair Flow (W. Beck) recorded Imin 331-ssec for seven furlongs, slackening speed in the straight after running the opening three in Keep Time <G- W. Mein) dashed over six furlongs in Imin 17sec. AS usual he appeared to do his work effortlessly. The last half mile took 813-Ssec and the final three furlongs, 30 4-Ssec. Keep Time looks to have a second-to-none chance in the Kinloch Handicap at Motukarara. The stablemates Panda (N. Cowles) and Magic Circle <G. W. Mein) reeled off six furlongs in Imin W3-Bsee, the last four in 50 3-ssec and the final three in 382-ssec. They are rival candidates for the Ahuriri Hack Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday. Westport Winner Vivien Leigh (A. J. Stokes) and Duster (R. J. Blair) took Imin 18 3-Beec for six furlongs and 391-6 sec for the last three fur-

longs. Vivien Leigh Impressively won a double against the hack sprinters at Westport, and might improve her record in the Ahuriri Hack Handicap at Motukarara. The stablemates Treasure Mine (R. W. Gould) and Pitch (J. L. Coulter) sprinted six furlongs in Imin Isaac, the last three strongly in 37 2-Ssec.

Breaker (J. L. Coulter) and Question Mark (R. W. Gould) took Imin 20 2-ssec for six furlongs and 39sec for the last three. Storm Haven (W. Humphries) was shading Mighty Son (R. J. Blair) and Leslie (L. McGuire) finishing half a mile in 49 2-ssec. The Trentham candidate Cadiz (A. J. Stokes) was restrained while running three furlongs in 431-Ssec. He appeared to thrive on his successful Wingatui campaign. Stylish (G. W. Mein) ran three furlongs in 411-ssec. He is in the Bradley Handicap at Motukarara.

The inside of the trial grass was lightly used.

Tombola (M. Wlldermoth) sprinted his half mile in 49 f-Bsec. He has not raced since the Ashburton spring meeting. Wild Clover <W. Hanlin) and Kastanear (T. Wilson) ran their half mile in 612-Bsec. Prince Morocco (A. H. Eastwood) led Billy’s Hope (C. T. Wilson) by half a length finishing half a mile in 49sec. They are rival candidates for the Bradley Handicap at Motukarara. The stablemates, Rose of Kildare (E. G. Lbw) and Pictavla Girl (G. W. Mein) sprinted five furlongs, the last four on terms in 49sec.

Four Lengths Clear Gladwyn (B. W. McDonald) was hustled along in the straight to beat Repeat (R. J. Blair) and Studio (N. Cowles) to the end of half a mile by four lengths. Gladwyn, which was clear early, recorded Msec. Studio was not hurried apd looked little if at all Inferior to Gladwyn. Olympic Flame (D. J. Thlstoll) ran a mile on the outside of the course proper in Imln 45 2-Bsec, the last half in 62sec. She had a good weight up so it was a satisfactory trial for the Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara. There she is on the 7-7 minimum.

Captain Hunt (B. S. Dodds) led Rustic (L. J. Ellis) by half a length finishing half a mile in 49 2-ssec. It was a very good gallop on this track. Rustic reduced Captain Hunt’s lead near the end. It was a satisfactory Trentham trial by Rustic. Hopeful (N. Eastwood) and Nugget (R. L. Browning) were running on terms finishing six furlongs, the last four in 50 2-ssec.

Hopeful will be Rlccarton’s only representative in the Bailway Handicap at Trentham on Saturday. Hunt the Slipper (R. J. Blair) shaded the less-experienced Champion (E B. Skelton) in a wm over the five schooling fences. Hunt the Slipper’s jumping was uniformly good, and it gave him a short lead at nearly every.fence.
