PRISONER’S SHORT LIBERTY

Recaptured Within An Hour (New Zealand Press Association! AUCKLAND, March 1. A prisoner, David George Sutherland, who escaped this afternoon while working in a fatigue party outside the walls of the Auckland prison, was recaptured about an hour later. He was serving a term of preventive detention for false pretences. Sutherland was missed at 1.30 p.m. Prison officers went to a house at Avondale where they recaptured him. He is believed to have travelled to the house in a taxi. The escape was reported to the Justice Department. Jeliova’s Witnesses.—A crowd of 351 packed out the Mayfair Lounge yesterday afternobn to hear the District Servant for Jehovah’s Witnesses in New Zealand (Mr C. Calsbeck) address the three-day Witnesses’ Convention on “A Paradise Earth Through God’s Kingdom.”
