Great Northern Hurdles

The farm-trained gelding Rome, winner of the Thompson Hack Handicap at Hokitika on Monday, may go to Ellerslie for the Great Northern Hurdles in June. Rome has struck good form on the West Coast lately, and has won four races from his last five starts. His owner-trainer, F. Dudley, expects him "to do best as a hurdler. ,

Rome revels in soft going, and muddy winter tracks are not expected to trouble him.

Dudley said he was pleased with the way Rome handled the righthand Hokitika track. There is a right-hand track at Ellerslie.

MOTUKARARA STAKES

The Banks Peninsula Racing Club will distribute £2050, not £1750, in stakes for its meeting on March 7.

Stakes have been reduced by £325 on the £2375 offered last year.
