Bold Pilot Won “By A Whisker 99
[From the Australian Correspondent of “The Press"! SYDNEY, February 17. Bold Pilot literally won the Flying Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday by a whisker. Technicians in charge of the photo finish apparatus declared that Bold Pilot beat Heroic Victory by three-eighths of an inch.
The finish is claimed to be the closest on record in Australia.
The judge, Mr Claude Martin, said he would have given the race to Bold Pilot because he was certain the gelding had lasted long enough to stall off Heroic Victory’s challenge, but he was surprised when the chart showed the win to have been by such a narrow margin. Spectators clustered around the notice boards showing the photographs for a long time after the. race. They thought a dead-heat would have met the occasion.
