Hard To Obtain A Start

Owners and trainers of some two-year-old pacers are expected to find it difficult to obtain races for their horses in the next few months. Forty - seven two - year - olds were entered for the Canterbury Park Juvenile Stakes at 'Addington last Saturday and 16 were able to start. Thirtyeight have been entered for the Invitation Stakes at Orari on February 28, but fewer than half will be able to start, as the safety limit is 18. When reducing fields to the safety limit, most clubs give to a number of the best-performed horses and ballot in from the remainder. The connexions of promising youngsters which have not started at or shown to the best advantage at trials are going to find it hard to obtain a place in a field of totallsator meetings in the near, future.
