Falsehood Beats Reklaw (From Our Own Reporter) HOKITIKA, Feb. 16. Apart from -Spring Gully, which lost all chance through an indifr ferent beginning, the field got away on fairly even terms in the Tasman Trot Handicap at Hokitika today. Matron Dale sprinted to the front in the first furlong and was out by six lengths from Reklaw, Second Lady, Glissando and Young Paul with a circuit of the track to complete. Reklaw took control in the back straight to lead Matron Dale and Glissando by four lengths at the half-mile. Falsehood started a powerful run from the rear to race prominently with three furlongs left. Reklaw had a lead of three lengths from Falsehood and Matron Dale as they came round the home turn. Dan’s Wonder was improving his position ahead of Second Lady and Fair Flight. Reklaw looked the winner halfway down the straight, but Falsehood continued a powerful run which gave him victory by a length from Reklaw, with four lengths to Dan’s Wonder, which was followed in by Sanfarer, Glissando, Serpentine and Second Lady. In the Yarrall Trot Handicap, Jewel Song and Fair Flight were very slow away and settled down towards the rear of a strung-out field. Matron Dale and Serpentine disputed the pace from Agreeable and Second ; three furlongs. Agreeable rushed to the front and led through the straight the first time by five lengths from Matron Dale, followed by Serpentine, Sanfarer, Fair Flight. Glissando and his stablemate. Spring Gully. At the half-mile Agreeable was being hurried along to keep the lead from Sanfarer, which had made up her ground very fast. Sharpie. Serpentine and Glissando.
