Opera Contest Still Open

The competition for a one-act qpera with a prize of three million Italian lire, sponsored by the House of Ricordi, plus a guaranteed production at La Scala, Milan, had no positive result, says the "Scotsman.” After examining 131 works, the jury, which included Werner Egk, Frank Martin, Poulenc, Petrassi, and Victor de Sabata, decided not to award a prize. Ricordi’s, however, are trying again, and announce another International Competition for an opera in one act or for a chamber opera in one or more acts with the same prizes. The last date for submission of manuscripts will be June 30. 1960. Full details may be had from G. Ricordi and Co. (London), Ltd., 271 Regent street, London, W.l.
