New Zealand horse Second Earl to win the A.J.C. Doncaster Handicap. They coupled Chipperfield with nine prominent Sydney Cup candidates to win amounts ranging from £5OOO to £12,000. Both Second Earl and Fuss were taken with eight cup candidates, each to win £lO,OOO. The support forced bookmakers to promote Chipperfield to equal favourite with Bold Pilot and Skyline, but after his defeat in the Flying Handicap later in the day, Chipperfield was eased to the second line of favouritism. Chipperfield finished second last in a field of 11. The winner. Bold Pilot, is now sharing equal favouritism for the big race with Skyline. Second Earl's price has been halved and he now shares the second line of favouritism. The latest order of betting is: Doncaster Handicap Bold Pilot, Skyline. Caesar, Chipperfield, Lady Cortauid.
