Big Funeral For Fireman

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 23. More than 300 mourners gathered in St. Joseph’s Cathedral for the funeral of Fireman Thomas Terence McCambridge, aged 22, who died in attempting to rescue the three men who were overcome by gas in the Queen’s Park well, Invercargill, on Tuesday. The funeral, which was conducted by Father G. T. Hussey, was attended by members of the Otago and Southland Metropolitan Fire Brigades. Three members of the Dunedin brigade and three from Invercargill were bearers. The coffin was placed on a fire engine for the drive to the cemetery. The funeral procession passed the Dunedin Central Fire Station, where brigadesmen who were not able to attend the service were lined up.
