NEW DELHI. January 21. The Duke of Edinburgh was today awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science by Delhi University Afterwards he addressed the joint assembly of the University Convocation and the Indian Science Congress, giving the history of the British Association for Advancement of Science which he is representing. He told of its early struggling days and ended with an appeal that “upright men and women throughout the world should bring pressure to bear to ensure that science was used to free and not to enslave mankind.' “Every human invention or discovery can be used for good or for evil, and in the end it is people as a whole who decide which it is to be,” he said. *‘lt is therefore essential that possible consequences of scientific reaserch should be put before the forum of ordinary people. “Only in this way can the combined opinion of reasonable, upright and humane men and women throughout the world exert the necessary pressure to ensure that science is used to set free and hot to enslave mankind ” Lions’ Secretary.—Mr O. B Glasgow, a member of the Irish Rugby Union selection committee. has been appointed honorary secretary of the British Isles Rugby Union team to tour Australia and New Zealand later this year.—London, January 22.
