SERVICES FOR TOURISTS
Canadian Couple Disappointed Mr and Mrs D. Cooper, of Victoria, British Columbia, are enjoying their visit to New Zealand and they explained why when interviewed in Christchurch yesterday. They discussed the sheep they had seen, the mountains, Milford Sound, people they had met and their general impression of NewZealand life, which was good. But although the setting, the climate and people have been ideal they said they felt, compelled to grouse just a little about tte f poor service and limited tourist facilities in New Zeeland, but we older ones need a lift for ft: can become very tiring,” they said, referring to The Hermitage. Mr and Mrs Cooper have a large seaside house set in 14 acres of park-land in Victoria and as soon as they get back Mrs Cooper will resume her interest in the garden. In her mind’s eye she has been digging around the gardens of Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Cooper have three sons in different parts of Canada, and 10 grandchildren. Organisations When in Canada the Coopers take an active part in the work and social life of the Victoria League, the English Speaking Union and the Rotary Club. They have met members of these organisations while they have been in New Zealand. Mr Cooper is a Scotsman by birth and went to Canada in 1907. He very nearly came to New Zealand at that time and so part of the reason for visiting the Dominion has been to satisfy his curiosity. - Mrs Cooper is also of Scottish descent. Both Mr and Mrs Cooper are members of Scottish societies in Victoria. They will leave Christchurch on Saturday morning to attend the Burns bi-centennial celebrations in Wellington this weekend.
