TROTTING Open Field In Second Leg Of Forbury Double
Although it has drawn a field of only 11, th* j Summer Handicap, the second leg of .the double, looks > to be one of the most open mces on the first day of ■ the Fortum Park Trottint Club's suiftner meeting tomorrow..M. Hblmes s bracket of Papatawa and Robert Dillion wi& probably ■start favourite for the race, but J they wff hot have things their own way.
Papatawa, which has won at three of his last four starts, will be having his first start since joining Holmes’s team. The Lord Brooklyn four-year-old won twice at the recent Auckland Cup' meeting in most impressive style. If he has trained on satisfactorily since then, he is certain to take beating. . . Robert Dillon will not be without a chance. He failed in the two middle distance events at the recent Canterbury Park meeting, but gained a win and a fifth in sprint races. If he can be made to begin smoothly he will be hard to beat. Con Scott has taken a new lease on life since being trained at Ashburton by A. C. Amyes. Con Scott ran on strongly for second to Guard’s Brigade over 13 furlongs at Addington on January 2. The previous day he finished boldly for a close third to Honest Charles and Blue Emperor in a similar raee. Con Scott showed that' he was ready to pace a fine race at Dunedin when he beat all but Thunder in his heat of. the free-for-all at the Ashburton trials on Tuesday. Con Scott was never far away in that race, and he/made up a little ground in the straight. He was not knocked about and was within a neck of Thunder at the post. He could be the one to bring about the downfall of Holmes’s bracket. W Chance For Mayneen Mayneen has so far this season failed to win a race, but her turn cannot be far off. She was third to Scottish Ensign and Metier over 13 furlongs at Auckland at her last start She was sixth most of the way and came from a good way back at the straight entrance. The U. Scott mare is in great order at present and it will be most surprising if she fails to make a bold showing. Diamond Hanover has at times paced sound races this season. Bof his best efforts being at iry Park, fle lj capable of Id showing, but has been Off. tbe winning list i for so long that .it is difficult to enthuse over his, prospects. Be cbuld upset calculations. Gay Cobra and Ice Drift have been out of form for so long that it is difficult to see either of them winning. They should be safely held by Queen’s Glow, a winner on the first day of the recent Canterbury Park meeting. Solemnity won on the second day of the Canterbury Park meeting,, recording"' 4miq-.4 jft the twd' iUlles. is peak A'he other rtmfter. Upward. paced fair races ‘ at Addington early in the tnoiith. The •mailer field here may assist him to do better, but he should be safely held by Papatawa, Con Scott and Mayneen. Gambling Princess, which re-
quires a win to be eligible for the main races at the Nelson meeting next week-end, should go close to success In the Electric Handicap, which appears to have drawn a comparatively weak field. Gambling Princess hu had two wins and five placings in her last seven starts and she should win again at short notice. Lady Cardigan has not raced since she failed at Rangiora last month. She is more capable than her efforts this season suggest and she may upset calculations in this field. ( Fontani, which has had a wip and two thirds in her last tww starts, usually paces well at Forbury Park and thfc Waikouaiti mare should go close to reaching a place. . S } Blue Shawl, Pioneer and Debit are others expected to r*® 1 prominently. ' 'r'T Fields, with form, for the . races are:— . £ / DUNEDIN CUP, ' iOf .£l3OO. 4mln 25seo class.
