Engine Failure Near Napier

(New Zealana Pr«s» AMOAattonl WAIROA, January 22. A Cessna aircraft carrying three passengers and a pilot had an' engine failure about 7 ami. today and was put down on the main Napier-Wairoa highway near Bay View, on the Napier side of the Tongolo bridge. The aeroplane, owned by Cookson Airspread, Ltd., Wairoa, was being fldwn by Mr W. Cookson on a daily service which operates between Wairoa, Napier, and Gisborne. The aircraft began to lose power near Waipatiki and Mr Cookson tried to land on the beach there, but found it unsuitable. He then made for an airstrip in that area, but sheep obstructed his landing, so be made for the open stretch of roadway near Bay View. The aeroplane was landed on the highway without difficulty. ■ ■ ,
