YOUTH DROWNED
Swept From Capsized Dinghy (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 21. A youth, aged 19, one of four occupants of a 12ft dinghy, was drowned when it overturned in a heavy swell north of Mana Island late on Monday afternoon. He was: Laurence Edward Burke, of Tihahi Bay. The other occupants were his father. Richard Verdun Burke, John Benjamin Whitburn, also of Titahi Lay, and the owner of the dinghy, Brian Thomas Lacey, of Seatoun, Wellington. The four were fishing off Mana Island and, between 5 p.m. and 530 p.m., decided to return to shore. While they were on the way back a southerly sprang up and the boat was swamped. Three held on to the boat and supported Laurence Burke, a nonswimmer, as long as they could, but he was swept away by the heavy seas.
