Swimming NEW RECORD FOR 220yds
Fine Feat By Greymouth Boy
In a special attack on the New Zealand 220 yards junior record. Murray Manderson, a 14-year-old Dunollie boy, created new figures by a margin of almost four seconds at the Greymouth War Memorial baths last evening. His time was 2min 26.95ec, compared with the record of 2min 30sec, “established by E. Haora, of the Bay of Plenty, at Rotorua, on January 25, 1957. Manderson had previously, unofficially, bettered the New Zealand record on three occasions, and he looks an outstanding prospect to add to the two West Coast successes achieved at Dunedin last year by the Greymouth girl junior, Donna Nolan. Manderson will most assuredly lead the West Coast team which will compete at the New Zealand junior championships at Palmerston North next month.
