SOUTHDOWN RAMS AT FEILDING

Lower Average For Sale

"The Press" Special Service FEILDING, January 14. South Island buyers were again prominent at the thirty-first annual Manawatu and West Coast stud Southdown ram fair at Feilding today. Over all, prices were down on last year's offering. The top price of the day was 800gns, compared with 1175gns at last year’s sale. This was realised for a ram from the well-known Arnage Land Company, Ltd. (Marton), and for another from Dalzell Bros. (Kiwitea). Mr M. J. Clark, of Masterton, was the purchaser of the Arnage ram and Mr I. Rowan, of Palmerston North, became the new owner of the other top price ram. The buying tone was buoyant for good quality sorts from old-estab-lished studs, but auctioneers had a difficult task in disposing of rams from comparatively new studs. Of the total entry of 183 rams, 81 were passed in at auction. The total realisation for the sale was 21,115gn5, against 23,640gns at the corresponding sale last year. The average for the sale was 207gna compared with 299gns last year. The Arnage Land Company again obtained the highest average for an individual vendor, although out of their total offering of 17 rams three failed ,to sell. Their average was 323gns. Dalzell Bros, also returned a good average of 297gns and the stud of J. H. Bartlett (Kiwitea) averaged 27gns. The leading sales of the day were: On account Arnage Land Company, Ltd. (Marton): at 800gns to M. J. Clark (Masterton), at 700gns to W. Oakley (Waipukurau), at 400gns to E. J. Kilgour (Bulls), at 350gns to Karamu Land Company (Wanganui), at 350gns to R. A. Humphrey (Feilding). On account Dalzell Bros. (Kiwitea): at SOOgns to lan Rowan (Palmerston North), at 570gns to H. J. Andrews (Oamaru), at 550gns to H. Tuck (Putaruru), at 380gns to R. Hoghton (Marton), at 360gns to B. D. Stewart (Levin), at 446gns to G. Buick and J. Lochore (Palmerston North), and at 370gns to estate D. Robertson (Gore). • MgW RwulßdeT’ea *1
