AUSTRALIAN STEEL
Businessman’s View Of Industry
(New Zealand Press Association) WANQANUI .January 14.
“The Australian steel industry is limited only by the amount of steel that Broken Hill can produce,” said Mr C. N. Mackenzie, of Melbourne, chairman of Humes Ltd., Australia, when asked, in Wanganui today, to comment on the Australian steel situation.
Mr and Mrs Mackenzie, who arrived at Auckland in the liner Orsova on Sunday morning, have broken their South Pacific tour to visit Hume Industries (N.Z.) Ltd. installations. Tomorrow morning Mr and Mrs Mackenzie will be conducted on a tour of the Wanganui branch by the acting manager at Wanganui (Mr W. M. Miner). Mr Mackenzie said that the steel industry in both Australia and New Zealand was going ahead very rapidly. Steel was being used for more and more purposes, and light steel. In particular, was replacing wood in many products. From Wanganui Mr and Mrs Mackenzie win travel to Wellington, and from there ito Christchurch from where they will depart for Melbourne.
