MR MACMILLAN ON TOUR
No Date Yet For Election
LONDON, January 13. The Prime Minister (Mr Harold Macmillan) today began a threeday tour of North-east England. Political observers said the visit should enable him to sense the climate for the British general election, to be held in the next 16 months. The Prime Minister continues to keep his Labour opponents guessing as to whether he will ask the nation for a fresh mandate in the spring, autumn, or early next year.
Constitutionally, the Conservative Government can remain in office until May next year.
