Agreement Imminent

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) • CAIRO, January 12. An agreement ended the two-year financial differences between Britain . and the United Arab Republic and paving the way for resumption of at least consular relations seemed imminent today as the British and Egyptian delegations resumed the full-scale talks begun yesterday. Sir Denis Rickett, a senior Treasury official and head of the British delegation, told reporters on his arrival last night: ‘1 dm authorised to sign an agreement.” The talks began before he arrived. An authoritative source, disclosing that both sides had reviewed a draft agreement, said last night: “If both delegations work from morning to evening tomorrow they will finish the agreement.’’

Egyptian newspapers forecast yesterday that 378 British firms with assets valued at about £56million would be desequestrated on the signing of the agreement.
