MARLBOROUGH DROUGHT
No State Aid As Yet Serious drought conditions still persist in the Seddon and Ward area of Marlborough, according to Mr J. P. Beggs, senior instructor of the Department of Agriculture in Blenheim, although Pension has been eased on farms m the area ih that Jambs have- now been disposed of and some farmers also have stock away grazing. Good rains were experienced in Marlborough before Christmas, but no worthwhile rain has fallen since in the worst drought areas A drought relief committee has been set up in the district, but adviee has been received from the office of the Minister of Agriculture that in the meantime the Government has decided to defer the provision of financial aid to farmers, aS it is considered that the drought has not reached disaster proportions justifying emergency assistance. -No further approach to the Government for assistance has yet been made through the drought relief committee, but Mr Beggs said that a meeting was being held by Federated Farmers at Seddon this week, at which no doubt the drought would be discussed.
