ARMY PARTY FROM U.S.

Exchange Visit To NX.

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 12. A United States Army delegation, comprising five officers, will arrive at Whenuapai on Thursday for a month’s visit to New Zealand. The visit forms part of an exchange scheme by which selected' officers of the New Zealand and United States Armies will tour their respective countries’ military establishments. Five New Zealand officers will leave Whenuapai on January 17 and will spend about three weeks touring units of the 25th United States Infantry Division in Hawaii. The United States officers are: Lieutenant-Colonel F. R. Gehring and Major J. W. Jones (both infantry officers); Captain R. S. Harper (an armoured officer); Captain E. W. Dill and Lieutenant L. D. Fitzgerald (both artillery officers). The New Zealanders who will leave at the week-end are: Lieu-tenant-Colonel F. Rennie, New Zealand Regiment, who is at present director of infantry and training at Army Headquarters; Major K. G. Miles, R.N.Z.A.S.C.; Major W. A. Simpson, RN.Z.A.C.; Major F. B. Bath, R.N.Z.A.; and Major B. M. Poananga, New Zealand Regiment.

The American officers will visit all major New Zealand Army establishments and observe training of territorial units at Waiouru, Linton and Burnham. They will be in Wellington from January 23 to 26. Apart from visiting normal military establishments, the New Zealanders will take part in a field exercise staged by the 25th United States Infantry Division. They will also attend an artillery exercise.
