NEW ARRIVALS AT TRENTHAM

Compte De Paris

Impressive

“The Press"' Special Service WELLINGTON, June 12. Compte de Paris, a candidate for the Anniversary Handicap on the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting, made a good impression * when he was exercised at Trentham today. Most of the Auckland and Waikato horses, as well as two from the South Island, have arrived, but few of them were at the track this morning. One which attracted a great deal of attentiort by her appearance when being exercised was Summer Glow, an early Wellington Cup favourite, and two others in the same race, Yeman and Ark Royal, are also in excellent order. Compte de Paris, a good-looking three-year-old, was taken to the track by his trainer, H. N. Wiggins, soon after their arrival from Auckland. Compte de Paris won at Ellerslie at Ihis last start after good form in Australia and is sure to be one of the best supported in the Anniversary Handicap. No rider has been engaged for him. Summer Glow was later joined by other members of G. W. B. Grpene’s team—Melanion, Ole, Up and’ Coming, Fountainhead. Beau Way. Torrid Time and Love and Kisses. Up and Coming, which will race in the Gloaming Stakes on Monday, looks no different from what he did at his last visit in the spring, but Fountainhead looks improved. He will contest the Wellington Stakes, of six furlongs, on Saturday In Hard Condition Yeman is in hard condition, and although he has the record book against him, he should go close to winning his second Wellington Cup in succession. At Avondale on Saturday his running was the subject of an inquiry and his jockey’s explanation that he was carried back by the tiring Somain was accepted. Yeman won two races in four starts in Australia then finished an unlucky fourth in the Melbourne Cup. He has raced only twice since returning. Ark Royal, which arrived at the week-end, will be galloped tomorrow. He ran third on a sprinter’s f>reparation in the last New Zeaand Cup at his only attempt at two miles. Minglow. which will contest the Telegraph Handicap, is also at Trentham. She won two races at Dunedin and was placed at her other start there. Previously Minglow has spoilt her chances when racing away from home, by travelling badly, but she has settled down well on this Balaam, Gayfair. Bella Paola and Passive, members of F. and G. Smith’s team, arrived yesterday, as did Jalna, Fairasaan. Lawful, Shamrock Queen and Prince Argon. Bella Paola has won ner last three races and is not harshly treated with 8-8 in the Fitzherbert Handicap, which is foe two-year-old fillies. Jalna and Lawful will be reserved for the Gloaming Stakes. Prince Argon, a strong high-weight prospect, won in similar company at Ellerslie and was also placed in a hack race over one mile and • a quarter. Passive damaged 'a hoof on the trip from Auckland, but it is not known yet whether it will affect her preparation for the Wellington Cup. Shamrock Queen will have her first open-company start in the Anniversary Handicap. She has been placed before at Trentham and has lately done well in the hack class. Last Saturday she finished a close second at Avondale after bolting before the start. There has been little rain at Trentham and the going, with the fire out of it, is in perfect order.
