POINTS FOR SHIELD

Auckland Has Best Chance

With two games stiU to be played—between Auckland and Northern Districts and Wellington and Otago—the Plunket Shield competition is still open. Canterbury and Central Districts have played their five games And cannot win, and Northern Districts, with 13 points, could not win even if it was to gain an outright win over Auckland. The winner will come from Auckland (31 points). Wellington (30) and OUgo (25). If Auckland beats Northern Districts outright it is assured of the shield, but if It gains a first innings lead, then the possession of the shield may be decided by either Wellington or Otago gaining an outright win. Auckland is in a strong position for if the Wellington-Otago game U closely contested and the decision is on the first innings, then only a loss .on the first innings or an outright loss would deprive Auckland of the shield The points to date are:—
