Flood Danger In Kent
(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 12. Britain’s big freeze swept south to southern England yesterday with villages cut off by snow and flood warnings going to coastal towns in Kent, newspapers reported.
There is no sign yet of a break More snow is forecast today for all parts of the country, already covered white, up to 10ft deep in places. Gales in the Thames estuary brought the danger of flooding at high tides. Eighteen degrees of frost were reported at Shawbury, Shropshire.
Royal Air Force helicopter teams are standing by to drop food for cut-off villages and fodder for animals. Snow ploughs have been busy throughout the country rescuing people trapped in cars and buses by drifts.
A helicopter flew a five-year-bld girl 115 miles from Lowestoft to a London hospital because of frozen roads. The girl was seriously ill v£th an eye infection. i
