FESTIVAL WEEK IN DUNEDIN

Rear-Admiral G. J. Dufek, commanding officer of the United States Antarctic expedition, will open Dunedin’s festival week later this month. At the invitation of the Mayor of Dunedin (Sir Leonard Wright), the admiral will arrive in Dunedin on Friday, January 23, and return to Christchurch on Tuesday, January 27. Admiral Dufek and some of his senior staff officers were to return to Antarctica on board the Arneb, but with the transfer to the permanent base at Harewood in the next few months, the admiral will now spend most of the time in Christchurch.
